The Views from my phone

I like quite serene views from my windows.

If you are stressed out , just make a nice hot cup of frothy fragrant coffee go to your window and enjoy the cool breeze and the coffee at night. A sense of peace decends you , you feel calm and at peace , you have conversations with yourself and I bet those are the best conversations . The power of nature helps you keep grounded .

Take morning walks , and if the nature is kind enough you ll experience a power unparalleled . You find beauty is small things such is the morning beauty .

Some of my clicks , these are all taken from a basic phone , but I love the colors there .Please do not use these photographs without permission , though amateur these are my pride .

Prawn Fry

I got a shot which is not very good , will try to upload a better picture soon.

My mom finally relented and here’s here recipe , its quite simple but needs patience .

Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 5-6 big onions finely chopped [you need more onions]
  • 1 whole garlic with big cloves (skin peeled and be generous if you like garlic)
  • 2-3 inch ginger paste [add more if you like gingery taste]
  • 3 big tomatoes [cut finely]
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2-3 table spoon chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • oil as required [ok be generous here as well , you could skip a meal later]

Clean the prawns (I devein it again and wash is clean water) . now sauté it with turmeric powder on sim flame for 2 minutes till it releases water. Remove/strain the water and keep the prawns aside . This way you wont have a smelly dish , you can also use the water if making soups as a stock .

Take a pan and pour 1 small cup oil and on heating till it reaches smoking point; put onions and garlic and roast it till onions turn pink and roast again , this take some time , the onion should be soft and pink and release aroma .

Add ginger paste sauté it for a minute , mix well with onions

Put tomatoes and sauté it for 5 minutes or till soft . Add prawns to this and sauté for a minute. Add turmeric powder, salt, chilli powder and coriander leaves and roast well for sometime. Close it with a lid on sim flame and turning now and then until prawns are well cooked and masala slightly sticks to the pan. Add oil if required or less as and when it starts sticking to the pan , scrape and turn it and roast again . Roast till it looks like deep fry.[refer the pic above]. you can garnish it with lemon and coriander leaves and serve .

prawns fry is ready to be served hot . Yummyyy and i am hungry now .

hope you enjoy cooking it :). Please try and let me know .

DIY: Wool lamp

Hello friends here another cheap and attractive hanging lamps that i enjoyed making. You’ll get to see yarn ball videos but to make an attractive lamp out of it is very easy.

img_0070

Method:

  • wool yarns , left over yarns ,
  • flour/rice starch powder [you can also use readymade starch but it should be concentrated / wheat flours also works best ]
  • fevicol
  • serial lamps
  • balloon of your choice and shape , those inexpensive ones are the best , start with a small one first for experiment .

Take a bowl and add 2 cups of flour/ rice starch powder [basically any starch which stiffens the clothes crisp or you can use the flour]

4-5 spoons of Fevicol and 1/2-1 cup of water and mix it as shown in image till u get a semi solid semi liquid consistency. Be generous with feviocol , we need the shape to hold .

Dip the wool in it make it wet ( don’t worry about the colour of the liquid spoiling colour of wool it will dry and vanish) .

Start winding the wool around the baloon as shown in image. Get imaginative , its a little messy , you might want to secure your worktop with old newspapers , you can drape the wool dense or sparse as you like .

Let it dry overnight. If still wet let it dry more .

Burst the balloon and you will be left with beautiful yarn. The best way i find is , push the baloon with your fingers a little first gently so that the baloon is not sticking to the wool anywhere , this might take time , you need to be gentle and poke around every space to loosen the baloon from the wool lamp , once free from all the strings which were sticking to it , you can safely prick it .

Take the serial lamp and wind it around the yarn as shown in image take the serial lamp inside out of the balloon through the holes . you can get creative , add some crytals , some birds , some artifical flowers which reflect light and you have a beautiful lamp for few pennies .

hope you enjoy making it. 🙂

Tomato chutney for Idli/Dosa

My mom used to make this chutney and I used to love them with thin dosas or hot soft idlis. I learnt it from her and it remains my favorite one till day .tomatoes I have tried to use her recipe but there something else when she makes it , mother love and the taste is simply unbeatable or something which I cannot get right 🙂 .

This chutney is easy and light on stomach and very tasty too . Also you save a lot of time when in hurry .The addition of jaggery is optional , but jaggery is usually used in traditional tamil brahmin recipes and i find it enhances the tangy taste of the tamarind when added , but this is optional if you do not like any sweet taste . You can also omit the tamarind if you find they are already very ripe and sour or reduce the amount of tamarind to adjust your taste . Make sure you temper well , it brings an aroma to the entire kitchen and I am sure make everyone hunger more .For health freaks , you can omit the tempering too , but I would recommend it if you want that taste . be generous with curry leave , I love the taste of tempered curry leaves and they have many health benefits too .
